It was a most strange salutation, which a Magistrate got when the matter against a St Michael man came up in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court today.
“I hearing voices in my head. I think wunna want to kill me so kill me now and done,” the accused man told Magistrate Douglas Frederick immediately on entering the dock.
Ryan Clairmonte Benn is charged with intentionally damaging by fire three houses and two cars belonging to two of his relatives on April 2 this year. He resides at Brandon’s Gap, Deacons Road, St Michael.
The Magistrate then referred to the man’s mental history which, according to a report from the Psychiatric Hospital, mentioned a combination of psychiatric issues and drug abuse.
Meanwhile, Benn repeated his opening statement several times.
When asked by the magistrate about returning to the psychiatric hospital, the accused replied: “I want to go in society. I don’t like the mental neither.”
However, he explained that he would like to go there just “to get some information to find out something ‘bout my case’.”
Benn eventually was remanded to HMP Dodds until June 30.
