Barbados’ Oein Josiah and Elisa Whitehouse gave a good account of themselves over the weekend at the MASSY Rainbow Cup Triathlon in Tobago.
Barbados did not disappoint with podium performances in both the male and female Olympic sprint distances, which also involved entrants from Martinique, Canada, Germany, Venezuela and Grenada, among others.
Josiah, sponsored by Forever Health and Fitness, placed fourth overall (out of 107) while Whitehouse, a late entry to the competition, placed third, a spot up from her performance at the same event last year.
Both athletes remarked that the course had its challenges, but that the effort was enjoyable.
Josiah stated that although he was nervous at the start line, at the finish he felt “good, strong and well worked.” So good in fact, that he registered for a 5k just a few hours later and still came sixth overall –– first in his age group.
Josiah’s next local triathlon will be the Barbados National Championships on October 4, though he was also invited to compete at the Tri De Spice in Grenada during Easter 2016.
