It’s going to be epic! When Machel Montano touches down in August, there will be no question or guessing about his presence. And he is coming in full party mode; and its going to be “boom bam endless wukking”!
The well ready energy god told Bajan Vibes in an exclusive interview: “Starting right now, it’s officially Crop Over time!”
And despite the much criticism and talk over the dropping of Cohobblopot and inclusion in Crop Over of the new event One Love put on by Volume Entertainment, Montano, the headline act, says all his fans can expect one fantastic show.
“I am confident that the Volume Entertainment team will execute the One Love show at an international standard. You can expect the full Band Of Monk, with dancers and loads of energy, alongside other artistes from Barbados and the region soon to be announced,” Montano said.
The Vibes Cyah Done singer advises his fans to get their tickets in the early, because it is a show not to be missed.
“I hope that this will be the start of a great relationship with the Volume team, and I’ll see you guys on August 2 at Kensington Oval,” Montano added.
And he is more than ready to hit the road on Grand Kadooment Day. He has joined with Baje, which he said was an honour to be a part of, and will be bringing his very own band Epic Mas’.
“Baje International has solid roots in Barbados, and it’s an honour that they have invited
our Epic Mas family to team upfor Barbados Crop Over, 2015. It’s also exciting, as it is the first time Epic Mas will be a partof a carnival in the Caribbean,” he said.
Epic Mas was conceptualized in 2014 as a carnival section in the band Extacy Mas for Hollywood Carnival, 2014 Montano, who also goes by the name My Monk, explained what his section would be about and the impact he believed it would make.
“Epic Mas is a band seeking to unite not only the global soca community, but connect with an entire generation of people seeking knowledge, truth and happiness. I believe the combination of local talent uniting with the global carnival community to share energy and love through music and art will make
our impact amazing.” Montano said his section Flying Stars was extra special.
“Our team includes two Baja entrepreneurs: Janelle Forde, an extremely talented young designer, who not only designed our costumes for Baje, but will also be featured in Epic Mas’ band for Hollywood Carnival, 2015. Leah Marville, who was featured as an Epic Mas celebrity ambassador for Hollywood Carnival, 2014, is now the face of Baje International, 2015,” the soca star revealed.
Bajan Vibes also spoke with Leah, who said she was excited to be a part of the band and could not wait to get on the road.
“This Crop Over is an exciting time for me! As the queen of the band for Baje International and one of the global ambassadors for Epic Mas Band, the marriage between the two is timely and a perfect fit! I’m proud that it comes with the backdrop of Crop Over, 2015, which is already carded to be one of Barbados’ bigger seasons in recent years! Can’t wait for the vibes on the road!” the former Miss Barbados World said.
Baje bandleader Richard Haynes said he had always wanted to work with Montano.
“I have worked with Machel twice before. He has passed through the trucks spontaneously for a li’l vibe over the years and I have always wanted to do something on a formal partnership level, because I have an incredible amount of respect for him and what he does. Finally we managed to sign the deal and Machel is actually a partner with Baje International this year. He has his section.
“We are totally blessed by this. He has really been pushing this on social media. And I think Barbados on the whole has a lot to gain from this. I hope it’s the first of many partnerships,” Haynes said.
He let it be known that Machel’s section Flying Stars was the largest in the band, with 200 people –– all females. And get this: the section has already been a sell-out.
Montano simply told the revellers to bring all their friends, and “join Baje and I, and get ready to fly! See you on the road”!
