By Wednesday, hopefully, everyone should know who will contest the final of the Pine Hill Dairy-sponsored National Sports Council’s Primary Schools Netball Competition after today’s semi-final games were abandoned due to rain.
The game between Blackman and Gollop B and Grantley Prescod got underway today at the Netball Stadium and went down to the fourth and decisive quarter with the score 16-8 to Blackman and Gollop. Then the rain started and forced play to be called off with five minutes and 26 seconds remaining.
National Sports Council coach and organizer for the competition, Sonia Banfield, who officiated the game with Sandrene Jordan before the game was forced to be called off, said Jordan was unable to finish the game because she had an appointment and had to leave.
The other coach present, Tracey Leacock, was reportedly not feeling well and therefore the game had to be rescheduled until Wednesday. This though the court had been dried with the help of parents and fans present.
The first semi-final game played was locked 3-3 in the opening quarter. Then Blackman and Gollop took the lead 7-6 and commanded the game 16-8 in the third quarter.
This year’s tournament has been filled with controversy with some teams and NSC officials questioning the presence of two Blackman and Gollop teams in the competition, and some schools refusing to play Blackman and Gollop. They are the defending champions.
