Kolij, QC to face off

Queen’s College and Harrison College will contest the final of the Co-operators General Insurance-sponsored National Sports Council Junior Basketball Competition at the YMCA tomorrow.

The final’s spots were decided this afternoon at the Wildey Gymnasium when Queen’s College trounced Graydon Sealy 71-59 in the first semi-final showdown and Harrison College edged Alexandra 36-35 in the second encounter.

Makaari Jones scored a game high 30 points for Queen’s College with 14 from Gavin Howard and 12 by Rasheed Arthur as the boys from Husbands, St James led 19-15, 40-29 and 52-44 at the end of the first three quarters. Meanwhile for Graydon Sealy Chemar Steele netted 22 points with contributions of 16 from David Walkes and 10 by Tremaine Straker.

In the other semi-final game which was a thriller, Harrison College took the advantage 13-10 after the first quarter. Alexandra came from behind and locked the scores at 17-17 but Harrison College regained the lead 27-25 at the third quarter thanks to Raphael Howard who top-scored with 15 points and Christan Holder who chipped in with 12.

As the game reached a climax it came down to who held their nerves the better and with some scrabbling defence and Howard to the fore when it mattered, the Crumpton Street school held on for the narrow victory.

Kieserian Adams ended with 13 for Alexandra and Rasheed Maynard added nine.
