The final of the Co-operators General Insurance-sponsored National Sports Council’s Secondary Schools Basketball Knockout Competition came to an abrupt halt when rain came and stopped what was turning out to be an exciting showdown at the YMCA today.
With just seven minutes to play in the fourth and decisive quarter Harrison College held the advantage over Queen’s College 40-36. Queen’s College took the first quarter 17-14 but Harrison College did well to fight their way back into the game and locked the scores at 26 at half-time and then went on to take the lead 38-36 in the third quarter.
Raphael Howard was leading the scorers with 14 points for Harrison College while teammate Christan Holder had eight.
For Queen’s College Makaari Jones and Nicholas Grimes had 11 points each.
Organizers at the National Sports Council said providing no rain, the final will resume at 10 a.m. on Monday and if the rain falls in the morning, they will push back the time to 2:30 p.m.
