The threat of a national strike is still looming.
Today, the National Council of the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) met and gave the go ahead to the executive to take whatever industrial action it deems necessary in its dispute with the Barbados Investment Development Corporation (BIDC).
Last week, the NUPW had threatened national strike action if the BIDC did not revoke recent termination letters issued to at least a dozen employees over age 60.
Following a meeting this afternoon, the union revealed that it would call out its members tomorrow if a scheduled meeting with the Minister of Industry Donville Inniss is not successful.
The National Council has also given the nod for action to be taken at the Sanitation Services Authority (SSA) if two workers who were to be reinstated since last month are not back on the job by tomorrow.
The threat of industrial action comes as the island prepares to welcome Caribbean Community leaders here for their 36th summit at which UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon will also be in attendance.

Here we go again this young turk just want to shut down the country and for what a matter that can be decided by the courts,i shudder to think that these are the kind of individuals that are in charge of organizations in this country, we all really need to pray and ask Jesus to take the wheel, because some are bent set on driving us to chaos.
