David McDonald Waldron of Gunsite Road, Brittons Hill, St Michael admitted that he stole a bottle of Old Brigand Rum which cost $18.65 from Shop Smart on Monday.
Station Sergeant Peter Barrow told the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court that when Waldron entered the Brittons Hill store, he went to the shelf where Tea-time biscuits were displayed.
He took up a pack before moving over to where the rum was. He took up a bottle and was seen by a security guard placing it his pocket.
Waldron paid for the biscuits and was about to leave the store when he was stopped by the guard. He took the rum from his pocket and tried to put it back on the shelf, but was held by the guard.
Police were called and Waldron was arrested.
Today, he asked the court “if I could pay a fine or something”?
Since he was unable to pay the $750 forthwith, the alternative of six weeks behind bars kicked in.
