Six needy families in the St Michael South East constituency will be smiling this Christmas when they receive hampers donated by the staff of a legal firm.
The staff of Clarke Gittens and Farmer collected funds to purchase food and necessities for families in the constituency who do not have anyone working in the household.
Yesterday, the nicely wrapped hampers were handed over to the South East Constituency Council, at the council’s Parkinson Resource Centre office, Pine, St Michael.
Legal Secretary at the firm Latoya Kinch said the company recently revived its staff committee and thought it was a good move to help the needy during the holiday. She said the company chose that constituency because it was based there.
“Everyone within the firm contributed monetarily or through grocery items. It was a full firm contribution,” Kinch said.
Meanwhile, member of the Constituency Council Tennyson Drakes said the families were chosen based on specific criteria.
“The people chosen are in need generally, but especially at this time of the year. We have helped a number of people so far this year that require assistance, generally with school items and household stock,” Drakes explained.
The hampers wil be distributed closer to Christmas Day next week.
