A small amount of marijuana, which Mervin Othneil Farley bought for $10, cost him $350 when he appeared on a possession charge in a Bridgetown court yesterday.
Farley, 45, of #5 Trellis Walk, Grazettes Housing Area, St Michael went before Magistrate Douglas Frederick in the District ‘A’ Magistrates Court where he pleaded guilty to having the cannabis on Sunday and was fined.
The $350 must be paid in one week or Farley will have to spend one month behind bars at HMP Dodds.
Evidence led in the case revealed that around 8 p.m. Sunday, while police officers were on patrol at Denton Road, Grazettes, they saw Farley fidgeting with one of his pockets.
They approached him, he consented to a search and a cut-rite paper wrapping was found in his right pants pocket. “I did buy dah herb in Black Rock for $10,” Farley told the police during an interview.
