NASSAU –– A Yellow Elder resident was stabbed to death outside his home during a fight with another man yesterday morning.

“Our preliminary information is that a 30-year-old male became involved in an argument with a [man],” Chief Superintendent Paul Rolle said on the scene.

“The [victim] left the house and [went] into the street as he attempted to walk away.”

However, Rolle said the victim was pursued by his assailant and was eventually stabbed to the upper body.

Emergency medical services officials pronounced the victim dead on the scene.

The Guardian understands the men were arguing over a jar of mayonnaise.

Rolle said police want to speak with the victim’s brother-in-law in connection with the investigation.

“We are looking for his relative, Lavardo Newton, and I’m asking him to come in and see us,” Rolle said.

Up to press time, Newton had yet to turn himself in. This incident brings the murder count up to 147 for the year so far.

The Bahamas has recorded a 21 per cent increase in murders so far this year. Last year this time there were 121 murders. The country recorded 11 murders so far this month. Including yesterday’s murder, four people were murdered in the past four days.

On Monday, a man was shot to death during a confrontation at a party in North Westridge around 1 a.m. Three others were injured, police said.

Police also reported that a man was driving with a woman, 43, in his Chevy truck on Adelaide Road around 8 p.m. on Sunday when they got into an argument. The woman shot the man and fled in the victim’s truck, according to police.

In the third incident, which took place on Boxing Day, a man was shot dead at a house party on Killdeer Drive, Monastery Park, following an argument with another man, police said.

Between August and November there were 62 murders. During the first half of the year there were 74 murders.
