By the end of March, Barbadians will have their 2014 tax refunds in hand.
Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler said today the 2013 payments were “97 per cent complete”, adding that the Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA) was in the process of sending out the 2014 Income Tax Returns, which started last August.
“So our goal is to try to complete that significantly, if not entirely, by the end of the current financial year and certainly before the next filing deadline has passed,” he told reporters.
Sinckler reminded Barbadians that returns were based on revenue and were therefore considered along with other Government commitments.
“So it is a balancing act when resources are constrained,” he said, while acknowledging that “by law, people are owed their money” and they should be paid.
“That’s what the BRA staff have been trying to do and have been given a charge to do,” Sinckler said.
The Minister also urged Barbadians who had not yet received their refunds for 2013 to contact the BRA office. (AH)
