Not only are the entertainers taking over Trinidad for Carnival. The deejays are over there doing their thing as well –– and leaving their mark.
Less than 24 hours after it was announced Hypasounds was a finalist in the International Soca Monarch competition, news broke that Kirk Brown was a finalist in the International Soca DJ Competition.
The International Soca DJ Competition is the new wave for Carnival, 2016. For the first time ever, the art form deejaying will be given a platform within Carnival.
DJs from all over the world will be given the opportunity to demonstrate their skills within the genre of soca music. Twenty finalists will vie for the crown and perform on the night of Saturday, January 30.
Kirk is the lone finalist from Barbados. He told Bajan Vibes that he was honoured to be a part of the competition.
“I’m very excited about being in the competition, being the sole DJ to be selected from Barbados. I’m very serious about what I do,” he said.
Kirk, who has one of the hottest morning shows –– The Edge on 98.1 –– added that right now he was preparing for the competition and gearing up to give it his all.
“Right now I’m . . . putting sets in place. They are doing it like a Soca Monarch; you have dancers, pyrotechnics, effects and so on. So you have to go all out for your onstage presentation. I’m putting that together now and a team,” the versatile deejay said.
He stressed he was looking to bring home the crown.
