A 21-year-old man was today remanded to HMP Dodds after going before the District ‘A’ Magistrates Court on a charge of indecently assaulting an 11-year-old boy.
Rico Renaldo Edwardsof Sargeant’s Park, Foul Bay, St Philip was not asked to plead to the January 7, 2016 offence. He will reappear in court on February 26.
After Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant heard objections to bail and Edwards’ application which followed, she remanded the unemployed man.
Sergeant Janice Ifill, the police prosecutor, told the court that her objections to bail were based on “the serious nature of the matter”, the fact that the accused was
already on bail for a similar matter from the District ‘C’ Court and that both allegations involved juveniles.
When Edwards was questioned by the court, he said that he recently completed a computer course and was hoping to continue studies in that field. He also said that he sometimes assisted with stage management.
The accused added that he was reporting to a police station faithfully in relation to the first matter against him and had also never missed a court date.
