Businessman Ralph Bizzy Williams says he wants nothing to do with Anderson Fat Child Cherry and his newest recycling venture.
In fact, Williams said today he was quite concerned that Cherry was pressing ahead with a proposed $65 million recycling and composting plant at Vaucluse,
St Thomas without the necessary Town & Country Planning permission.
Last week, Cherry admitted to Barbados TODAY that he has begun clearing the 67.9 acre site, although he was still to get the green light from Government to go ahead with the project.
At the same time, Cherry invited Williams, whose Sustainable Barbados Recycling Center (SBRC) handles the bulk of Government’s waste disposal, to cut him a slice of the state’s garbage processing and handling business. Pointing out that SBRC currently gets $24 million a year, Cherry also argued for other private waste haulers to get a share of the Government business.
However, Williams has flatly turned down Cherry’s proposal, saying he was not prepared to go back on his contract with Government.
He also accused Cherry of “coming along and he is writing his own rules and deciding what he is going to do,” adding, “now he is asking me to go along with him and flout the law”.
An angry Williams, who is the executive chairman of Williams Industries, also accused Cherry – who owns Jose Y Jose Liquid and Solid Waste Management Inc – of seeking to undermine Government’s goal of having “a proper and orderly” garbage disposal system, supervised by the state-run Sanitation Service Authority.
“He is now demonstrating that he doesn’t [care] about the laws of Barbados. He could start bulldozing stuff and putting up signs without planning approval, right overlooking the most expensive real estate in the island,” he told Barbados TODAY, while asking if Cherry’s objective was to destroy the tourism industry.
“I wonder what really is going through his mind?” pondered Williams, pointing out that Cherry’s recycling operation at Lears Quarry, St Michael was recently deemed illegal by the Town & Country Planning Department and was therefore in contravention of the law. (EJ)

This Williams bunch have too much control in Barbados - they get too many government contract when i doubt very much they are even providing the best product. Some of the roads they build are absolutely appalling.
