Prime Minister Freundel Stuart has congratulated the new Prime Minister of Jamaica Andrew Holness and his Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) following their recent general election victory.
The JLP narrowly won last week’s poll, defeating the incumbent People’s National Party by 32-31 seats in the 63 seat House of Representatives.
In a congratulatory letter to Holness, Stuart wished him every success and assured him of the support and cooperation of the Barbados Government.
Highlighting their close association, he said: “Barbados and Jamaica have maintained a very constructive and friendly relationship in every sphere of engagement and, in particular, have been important partners in the regional integration movement.
“I therefore look forward to working with you on matters of mutual interest to our countries and to further collaboration within the Caribbean Community as we work towards the advancement and progress of our people.
Stuart said it was his sincere hope that the two countries could continue to pursue new business opportunities and economic, social and cultural initiatives to further enrich the lives of their respective communities.
