West Indies Women moved closer to the semifinal round of the ICC Women’s World T20 Tournament with a crushing 49-run victory over Bangladesh Women at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai this morning.
Batting first on winning the toss, West Indies Women made 148 with Barbadian Hayley Matthews top-scoring with 41 made off 42 balls with four boundaries. Captain Stafanie Taylor who also opened, made 40 from 41 balls with two boundaries and a six.
But the momentum in the innings came from Deandra Dottin, batting at number four, who made a quick-fire 24 off only 11 deliveries while striking two boundaries. Stacy Ann King contributed 20 in 15 balls.
In response the Bangladesh Women lost wickets steadily throughout their innings and were eventually dismissed in the penultimate over for 99. Wicketkeeper/batter Nigar Sultana top-scored with a run-a-ball 27.
Taylor completed an excellent all-round game with figures of 3 for 13 in three overs, while Matthews and Dottin chipped in with two wickets each. (WG)
