Ean Kearney and Ian McKinnon are the winners of the Barbados Golf Association’s 2016 Challenge Cup.

The champions produced a combined net score of 59 on Saturday to grab the Cup during an exciting tournament at the Barbados Golf Club, at Durants, Christ Church.

Kearney and McKinnon staved off a competitive field, winning by a stroke from the second placed team of Eric Layne and Horace Cobham (net 60).

Hank Lucas and Alwyn Browne also shot a net 60 but were forced into third position on the count-back system as Layne and Cobham had a better performance over the last nine holes.

Eighty-four players contested the two-ball/better-ball event, where several prizes that tested the skills of golfers were also up for grabs.

Former Barbados Badminton champion Argyle Maynard took the prize for closest-to-the-pin on Hole No. 2 as he flopped his tee shot within two of the hole on the Par 3.

Longest drive prizes were won by Leiza Munn-Blakeley (women) and Marc Egan (men).

During a presentation ceremony at the BGC club-house, which the champions were unable to attend, new BGA president Trevor Tasker thanked all participating players for making the Challenge Cup a success.

Tasker also praised the management and staff of the Barbados Golf Club for hosting the tournament and disclosed that a major Corporate Day event was being planned for June 17 at the same venue.

This event is one of a series of fund-raisers being organised by the BGA to assist Barbados in hosting the 2016 Caribbean Junior Championships which are scheduled for July 3-8.
