Police originally went to a Bridgetown apartment on Wednesday to investigate a domestic violence report.
However, they ended up arresting and charging a couple for marijuana possession, intending to supply the illegal drug and having a trafficable quantity after they detected a strong scent of marijuana coming from one of the accused.
Both Rashadi Camara DaCosta Norman, 26, and Rasheeda Sharika Hollingsworth, 29, of 3N Country Park Towers, pleaded guilty to the charges before Magistrate Douglas Frederick in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court earlier today.
Norman admitted to police after they had conducted a search, that a small quantity of herb he had in his pocket was his. He and his girlfriend also confessed to ownership of 11 marijuana plants which were found hanging on a line in the bedroom drying, a loose quantity in a plastic bag in the bedroom, as well as a cannabis plant growing in a plant pot.
The couple was remanded to HMP Dodds. Norman will return to court on May 3 while Hollingsworth will attend court on May 27. A warrant of arrest had already been issued for the woman based on her non-appearance at court in relation to another matter.
