Defending champions Blackman & Gollop A were in winners row today, but their B team had contrasting fortunes, as competition in the Pine Hill Dairy-sponsored National Sports Council’s Primary Schools Netball Tournament continued at the James Bryan Complex.
The champs disposed of Mount Tabor rather easily with Shalyssa Kirton scoring a perfect four goals from four attempts and Shaniah Padmore netting three goals from her eight attempts to take the game 7-0.
Blackman & Gollop B took to the court twice and while they defeated St George Primary 1-0, they had to settle for a 2-2 draw against St Judes.
In other action in this Pamala Proverbs Zone, Mount Tabor and St George Primary drew 1-1; St Bernard’s and Cuthbert Moore drew 2-2; and Cuthbert Moore defeated St Judes 4-2.
At the Netball Stadium in the Kathy Harper-Hall/Agnes Crichlow Zone, St Giles Primary’s Serena Edwards was the star attraction as she scored nine goals from nine attempts to lead her school to an 11-2 win over Lawrence T Gay Primary. Team-mate Shamarla Wickham chipped in with two goals from four attempts. For Lawrence T Gay Tianna Morris and Gineva Alleyne scored their sole attempts respectively.
St Mary’s registered two victories and had the hot hands of Teliya Callender and Gail-ann Cox to thank.
They first defeated Hindsbury 8-3 with Callender getting six goals from eight attempts and Cox, two from five. Maria Lane Griffith (2 from 5) and Syniah Lowe (1 from 1) scored for Hindsbury. St Mary’s also beat St Winifred’s 5-0 with Callender scoring three goals from five attempts and Cox two from five.
In other games, Deacons Primary beat Lawrence T Gay 4-1; George Lamming defeated Deacons Primary 4-3; Westbury Primary won 5-4 over Belmont Primary; and Hindsbury defeated St Winifred’s 6-1.
The Sonya Knight Zone will be contested tomorrow at Speightstown, St Peter starting at 11 a.m.
