Dominica under flood warning

A flood warning has been issued for Dominica by the Met Office as unstable weather continues to affect the island.
The warning will remain in effect until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
A flood warning means that flooding is already occurring or will occur during the warning period.
The Met Office said reports indicate that sections of the island are already experiencing rising waters, and silted and or blocked waterways are likely to promote flooding and landslides.

Unstable conditions reinforced by moisture convergence have been generating light to moderate and isolated heavy showers across Dominica since Friday evening.

Radar imagery indicated that pockets of heavy showers affected mainly the southern portion of the island throughout Friday night into this morning.

The forecast is for cloudy conditions with periods of showers which could be heavy at times and possible isolated thunderstorms to continue to affect the island throughout today and Sunday. Rainfall projection is for amounts of up to two inches and higher amounts in elevated areas. Flash flooding is therefore possible.
