What started out as a pleasure cruise for a 23-year-old man last Saturday, ended up in his arrest after he admitted to possession of cannabis.
It was around 7:45 p.m. while the popular Jolly Roger boat was sailing along the west coast, about half mile off Batts Rock, St Michael, that Jabarry Mascoll of Clifton Hill, St Thomas was observed by security on the upper deck acting suspiciously.
He was approached by security who searched him and found a clear plastic bag containing 26 white grease proof wrappings, along with a small zip lock bag, tucked neatly in his underwear, with what appeared to be cannabis.
Mascoll immediately confessed that the drugs were his, and was taken to the Barbados Coast Guard base and handed over to the marine police.
Yesterday, when the unemployed man appeared in the District ‘A’ Court, Magistrate Douglas Frederick asked him if he had anything to say about taking the drugs onboard the vessel to “mash up de people thing”.
“I jus’ sorry,” he told the magistrate before he was ordered to serve 80 hours of community service.
Mascoll returns to court on August 10.
