Defending champions St Leonard’s Boys are through to the semi-final of the Under-14 Barbados Secondary Schools Football League thanks to striker Kyle Forde-Blades who scored the winner over the St Michael school today.
The two teams met this afternoon at Richmond Gap, St Michael to see who would advance and St Leonard’s were definitely favored to win especially in their own backyard. They used the flanks to their advantage throughout the game. St Michael on the other hand played touch and go football with some neat passes but were not as attacking as the hosts who had a few attacking plays that almost found the back of the nets during the first half.
With just under two-minutes left in the first period, Forde-Blades got his shot past St Michael goalkeeper Shamar Ince. Raequan Jones sent in a beautifully floated corner from the right that found the forehead of Forde-Blades, one of the tallest players on St Leonard’s team. The score remained that way at half time.
The second half was similar to the first with the only difference being that St Michael were a bit more aggressive on the ball and made St Leonard’s defenders work a little harder. Seconds before the match ended St Leonard’s earned themselves a penalty which was taken by Shakobe Brathwaite but he sent the ball wide of the goal bar.
