The newly formed CONCACAF executive has been accused of trying to undermine the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) with some member associations even alleging political interference with the regional body’s affairs.
The issue stems from a decision by Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) president David John Williams to invite all other presidents of the CFU member confederations to a meeting to discuss the establishment of a long talked about Caribbean professional football league later this month.
The letter issued by Williams reportedly states that all travel costs for the meeting were already being paid for by CONCACAF with the support of UEFA.
The meeting is, however, being held without the involvement of the CFU, Caribbean football’s governing body, or even its knowledge.
With the CFU elections just two months away many have suggested that the meeting has been provided as a smokescreen for Williams to announce his candidacy for CFU president, heavily supported by the CONCACAF executive.
