Swimming gold for Gill and Clarke

Hannah Gill and McCallam Clarke turned in gold medal-winning performances on the second day of the Caribbean Islands Swimming Championships (CISC) at the Betty Kelly Kenning National Aquatic Centre in Nassau, Bahamas, Wednesday.

Competing in the 15 to 17 age category, Gill clocked 9:17.00 to take the win in the 800 metres freestyle. Aruba’s Florence Kock took the silver medal in a time of 9:19.60 and Bermuda’s Vanessa Esposito copped the bronze in 9:23.37.

Clarke was all class in taking gold in the 200 metres breaststroke. Not only was he victorious, but his 2:36.83 represented a new Barbados record in the age 11 to 12 category.

In other action in the pool, Luis Sebastian Weekes won silver in the age 15 to 17 200 metres breaststroke in a time of 2:29. 82.

Lani Cabrera also took bronze in the 800m free style for girls 18 and over in a time of 9:12.33. That event was won by Joanna Evans of the Bahamas in a time of 8: 40.68 with Aruba’s Daniell Van den Berg second in 9:05.30.

There were also bronze medals for Ti-Juana Welch in the age 11 to 12 200 metres breaststroke (3:01.87); Tristan Pragnell in the 11 to 12 50 metres backstroke (31.77); and Danielle Titus in the age 13 to 14 50 metres backstroke in a time of 31.25.
