St Leonard’s Boys managed a draw against reigning champions Combermere when the two sides met in the Barbados Cricket Association’s FLOW-sponsored Under-15 Cricket Competition Thursday.
Playing at Richmond Gap, Combermere were in control of the two-day match from its Tuesday start when they won the toss and restricted the home side to 132 for six from their allotted 35 overs. In response, Combermere scored 221 for nine off their 35 to take first innings lead by 89 runs on the opening day.
On the second day today St Leonard’s finished at 5p.m. on 235 all out in 65 overs to end their match in the draw which they were hoping for.
During the first innings St Leonard’s Boys captain Rivaldo Clarke top-scored with 29, Tremaine Dowrich ended on 28 not out batting at number six and Joshua Straughan made 22.
Anmar Goodridge and Shayon Blenman took two wickets each for Combermere.
In response the Waterford lads got off to a good start on the opening day with batting all-rounder Mathew Forde hitting a solid 70, while Jaden Leacock made 51.
Needing to clear a deficit of 89, St Leonard’s got down to business with contributions from Koshon Scott with 45, Tremaine Dowrich, 42, Rashawn Worrell 29, Damar Graham, 14, and Rivaldo Clarke, 12.
Blenman bowled well again taking four wickets for 42 runs off 15 overs. Nicholas Austin also grabbed two for 35 from 13.
Combermere are chasing their fifth consecutive title and have so far played well by winning three games and drawing one. Meanwhile, St Leonard’s have played five with one win, three draws and one loss.
