The couple charged with unlawfully killing young Jahan King last on June 29, 2015, was again remanded when they re-appeared in court Monday morning.
Lasonta Katrina Gill and her partner Dwayne Alistair Marshall have spent the past few months on remand at HMP Dodds, after being charged in connection with the death of Gill’s six-year-old son last June. Gill, 26 and Marshall, 33, both reside at Belfield, Jackson, St Michael.
For the third time, defence counsel’s application for them to be released on bail was denied.
After prosecutor Sergeant Neville Reid renewed his objections to bail, attorney Samuel Legay, who is representing both accused,
again raised concern that his clients were forced to remain on remand even though there was no indication as to when the preliminary hearing into their case would begin.
He also argued that neither of his clients was a flight risk; that there were persons ready to stand as sureties for the accused and there was no fear that they would not attend court once granted bail.
The attorney also pointed out that Gill’s pregnancy was advancing.
However, bail was denied by Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant and the accused sent back to prison. They will return to the District ‘A’ Magistrates Court on August 15.
