Harris accused of stealing iPad

His mother asked the court to help him, so Samuel Omar Kumar Harris was remanded to the Psychiatric Hospital until September 26.

When the 1st Avenue Fairfield, Black Rock, St Michael man went before Acting Chief Magistrate Douglas Frederick Tuesday and was asked to plead to entering Mario Prescod’s home as a trespasser between September 2 and 3 and stealing an iPad, Harris replied: “Sir, that is the ticklish thing about this here you know Sir. I would have to plead not guilty.”

After he did so, however, Station Sergeant Neville Watson objected to bail, stating that Harris had missed a court date back in January and had not returned to court before Tuesday.

In his defence, Harris said he came out of prison in January. Further, he had checked himself into the Psychiatric Hospital “three or four times for the year already”.

He insisted that he told the doctor there that he had a court date, “and yuh know wuh dey tell me? They are the final authority and they will let me know when I have to go to court”.

Harris’ mother was asked to address the court about her son’s his mental state. She expressed concern that he was not yet out of the woods and asked the court to assist him.
