After a year of waiting for the big day, students at the Half Moon Fort Primary School eagerly welcomed Governor General Sir Elliott Belgrave monday.
Despite the inclement weather, the Head of State ventured to the rural school in Half Moon Fort, St. Lucy where the excited students serenaded him and presented poems and tributes.
“Sir, we at Half Moon Fort Primary School have been anticipating this moment for a year and it has finally materialized,” said principal Veronica Best. “Our records can now be updated to reflect the fact that on October 10, His Excellency Sir Elliott Belgrave paid an official visit to the school. We are proud of that achievement.”
Best told the Governor General that the students and staff of the school saw him as “the embodiment of those good Barbadian values which speak to honesty, decency, respect, hard work, and dedication”.
“Your presence will therefore help significantly in motivating and inspiring our students as they go about their various pursuits,” the principal added.
Sir Elliott then greeted each student individually and the students were more than elated to shake his hand.
