The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has replaced batsman Darren Bravo in the West Indies squad for the ODI tri-series in Zimbabwe with Jason Mohammed. The announcement came a day after Bravo reacted on Twitter to WICB chairman Dave Cameron’s interview, where he said Bravo was offered a grade C contract due to his slipping batting average.
“It is explicit that if your averages are not above a certain level it tells you what contracts you get. It is very, very explicit,” Cameron told SportsMax TV.
“His averages in the last two years have been declining, so what do you do? Reward poor performance or do you encourage him to get better?”
Bravo responded with a tweet saying he had never been offered a Grade-A contract. “You hav been failing 4 d last 4yrs. Y don’t u resign and FYI I’ve neva been given an A contract. Big idiot @davec51,” he tweeted.
A WICB release said Bravo had been “replaced due to inappropriate and unacceptable behaviour, which is contrary to his contractual obligations to the WICB”.
A clause in his “match/tour contract”, the release said, “clearly states not to make any statement in or to any form of media (which shall include, without limitation, print media, television, radio, internet or any social networking media), or any other public statement, which would bring yourself, WICB or any official or authorised representative of WICB or the game of cricket into disrepute, and your agreement to use all such media in a responsible manner.”
Bravo was West Indies’ second-highest run getter in the recently concluded Test series against Pakistan in the UAE. Before that, he had a poor Test series against India at home, scoring only 139 runs in seven innings. Since November 2014, Bravo scored 1089 runs in 17 Tests for West Indies, a tally that is second to Kraigg Brathwaite’s 1258 runs in 20 matches.
Mohammed had captained West Indies A in their limited-overs series in Sri Lanka last month, scoring a 50 and a 100 in his side’s 3-0 clean sweep. A middle-order batsman, he has played two ODIs for West Indies, the last of which came a year ago, also in Sri Lanka.
The WICB release also said offspinner Sunil Narine would be returning home due to personal reasons, and he will be replaced by legspinner Devendra Bishoo.
West Indies had initially named their squad for the series – which also includes Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka – on October 13.
On November 4, they had announced an updated squad, with wicketkeeper-batsman Shane Dowrich and fast bowler Miguel Cummins brought into the 15, replacing experienced batsman Marlon Samuels and teenage fast bowler Alzarri Joseph. West Indies play their first game of the series on November 16, against Sri Lanka, in Harare.

This is rude and obnoxious and he should be dropped until he apologises. However, it is typical West Indian behaviour. It is part of the rot at the heart of Caribbean society, that lack of discipline and common decency.

With all due respect to a commenter on BU, there will be no recovery in West Indies cricket under Dave Cameron.

Well done AGAIN Dave Cameron ….I is you BOSS and you calling me a IDIOT ??
Bravo would have to be most DUMBEST person this side of the border. You called your BOSS an IDIOT and hanging around like a loopy dog looking to see what he would have done when the WISEST thing you should have done would have been to withdraw from the team soon after. Now look what happened NO CONTRACT…Tour Contract CANCELLED…and you EXPELLED from the team
Bravo you are the BIG IDIOT here because if you had a mind of your own you would not have been listening to and following the actions and advice of those players who are already known on
the T20 franchises around the Globe in trying to please the former coach ( another BIG IDIOT ) and trying to embarrassed the ODI captain and the Board…..and @ Meakai…..the TEAM has ALREADY began to IMPROVE now that those remnants have been removed .
Well said, Mr. Cameron did the right thing, there is no room for inconsistency or underachievers, you must merit what you earn, I know that that Bravo would like to see more zeros on his compensation, well he will have to first retrieve them from all those he made at bat,
When one is in intensive care and at death’s door, the slightest improvement is welcomed. Even then, the most optimistic knows that this is not a recovery.
Dave Cameron lacks tact and will never be able to unite and inspire West Indies cricketers or West Indies cricket. Keep wielding that big stick and soon, there will be a pile of rejected carrots on the board’s table.

As a fan I understand why you’re so upset Bravo, however instead of making sure unnecessary really marks , I think you should let your batting do the talking for you. EVEN you have to agree that your average been slipping lately.

Interesting how the players are so quickly disciplined for the slightest comments but Mr. Cameron gets to say whatever he likes without any repercussions. Guess the rules don’t apply to him. Seems to me that the players are the only ones being punish for the poor actions of both sides.
Must admit that I no longer follow West Indies cricket and it’s not only because of the poor performance of the team but also that of the board..
