United States Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Linda Taglialatela is not prepared to be dragged into any discussion on the concerns raised here about the election of businessman Donald Trump as the next US president.
Taglialatela deftly deflected questions about the possible direction of Trump’s presidency based on his nativist and anti-immigration rhetoric on the campaign trail.
In a comment to Barbados TODAY on the election outcome, the American diplomat, who took over from Larry Palmer at the end of January this year, said, “we are very happy that we have a very well defined democratic process”.
“We are happy that there was an opportunity for Americans to vote. The American people have spoken and we will all rally around what the decision of the American people is and we will work to create the next administration of the federal government and we will support it,” Taglialatela stressed.
Trump’s victory over Democrat Hilary Clinton in Tuesday’s election has been described by Vice Chancellor of the University of the West Indies Sir Hilary Beckles as a retrograde step that would take the US back by several decades to the days of “plantation America” when blacks had little to no civil rights and white supremacy was prevalent.

Having worked as a local employee in a senior position in the diplomatic arena for 22 years (now retired) I can safely say that the locals are safer job wise. There is an air of "uneasy" lurking re the future of these dips who are sent here to do NOTHING AND WHO KNOW NOTHING. Pack your bags!

Lest we forget - Errol Barrow's family owned several plantations in St. Lucy, etc. Making blanket statements like that in 2016 is really showing your colours and prejudices. Oh but I forget, only whites can be prejudiced.
