Pinelands into NexGen final

Gatorade Pinelands Future have secured a place in Sunday’s final of the inaugural 2016 Digicel NexGen Under-23 Independence Basketball Invitational.

In Thursday’s featured game Pinelands trounced Burger King Bulls 67-46, winning all four quarters and taking their tally on to 30 points with one more game in hand.

Leading the charge for Pinelands were the Hurley brothers, Derion with 14 points, and player of the game Deronì with 11. Kiserian Adams also scored 12 points. The going was so tough for Bulls that Akindele Licorish was the only person into double figures with 12 points.

The comeback kids, Vega Investment Warrens, came from behind once more as they won the final three quarters of their game to defeat Challengers 60-53 and set up a winner-take-all game against Discover 246 Cavaliers on Saturday night for a place in the final.

Scoring for Warrens was player of the game Nicholas Grannum with 16 points, Jonathan Dottin with 14 and Joshua Marshall, ten. Meanwhile, the only person that made it into double figures for Challengers was Christian Holder with 11.

Discover 246 Cavaliers easily won their encounter with Pirates 71-36 with player of the match Zachary Cave netting 22 points and Joel Hunte scoring 20.

Currently behind Pinelands in the points standings are Discover 246 Cavaliers on 24, Vega Investments Warrens on 22 for third followed by Burger King Bulls on 11, Challengers on seven and Pirates who continue to struggle, on two.

The tournament will continue Saturday at the Barbados Community College (BCC) with games between Gatorade Pinelands and Pirates at 5.30 p.m.; Burger King Bulls and Challengers at 6.45p.m. and Discover 246 Cavaliers against Vega Investments Warrens at 8p.m.

The third place game and final are scheduled for this Sunday night at the BCC with the third place game at 5.45p.m. and the final at 7:30p.m. between Pinelands and either Cavaliers or Warrens.
