A 40-year-old tiler has one month to pay an $800 fine to the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court, after pleading guilty to cannabis possession.
Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant imposed the sentence on Orlando Ricardo Jordan, 40, of Snagg Land, Savannah Road, Bush Hall, St Michael, who was charged with possession, possession with intent to supply and trafficking of the illicit drug on November 16.
According to the facts outlined by police prosecutor Sergeant Janice Ifill, police were on patrol along Swan Street, The City when they had occasion to speak to Jordan.
A search was later requested, to which Jordan consented, and lawmen found in his left pants pocket, a plastic bag with six plastic wrappings containing the contraband.
It weighed 26.3 grammes and had an estimated $131.50 street value.
On the charges of possession and possession with intent to supply, the magistrate reprimanded and discharged Jordan.
However, she imposed the fine for the trafficking offence, which, if not paid, carries a penalty of two months’ imprisonment.
