Two men appeared in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court today on separate drug charges.
However, while Wade Odain Harewood, 30, of Licorish Village, My Lords Hill, St Michael pleaded guilty to his offence, Mark Graham Seale, also 30, of Lot 1, Bagatelle, St Thomas, denied the charge brought against him.
According to the facts presented by police prosecutor Sergeant Janice Ifill, Harewood was working as a bartender at Kensington Oval on December 4 when he was seen by a security guard smoking a cigarette that smelled like marijuana.
He was detained and subsequently handed over to police.
Asked to account for the illegal substance, he allegedly said: “That is my spliff, no disrespect.”
Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant has imposed an $850 fine on Harewood who must pay the court in a month’s time. Failure to do so will result in him spending six weeks behind bars at HMP Dodds.
In the meantime, Seale told the No. 2 District ‘A’ Criminal Court he was not guilty of possession of cannabis.
With no objections to bail from the police prosecutor, he was released on $2,000 with one surety.
Seale returns to court on March 9, 2017.
