Josiah “Earth” Hinds’s unstoppable performance earned him a brilliant beaver-trick for hosts Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic has they trounced Deighton Griffith 7-0 yesterday afternoon in the Coca Cola sponsored Secondary Schools Under-19 Championship.
In a clearly one-sided affair at the Pine, the SJPP made light work of the visitors who were down 1-0 as early as the sixth minute, as they carried their undefeated record in the league to eight, with a single game remaining.
Rashad Crichlow opened the scoring when he capitalized on a through ball from striker Ray Francis, to beat the Deighton Griffith custodian Dwayne Cadogan at the far post in the fourth minute.
SJPP were the more attacking of the two teams and Hinds scored his first of four goals in the ninth minute when he dribbled the defence and found the back of the nets at the near post.
Three minutes before half-time in the 32nd minute, Hinds was back at it again, this time with some assistance from Crichlow with the cross, for a one-time finish.
SJPP were in a strong position with a 3-0 advantage at the break and they further sunk Deighton Griffith in the second half.
Francis produced a beautiful long pass in the 45th minute that found the boots of Dellano Callender who finished clinically after goalkeeper Cadogan rushed off his line.
Francis then got in on the action, scoring SJPP fifth goal of the game to further bury their opposition five minutes later in the 50th minute.
With Deighton Griffith already reeling, Hinds further deepened their misery in the 60th minute by taking on two of Deighton Griffith defenders, then beating the keeper.
He sealed his fourth goal of the contest five minutes later.
