Citizens immediately took to social media saying the shake-up was the worst most of them had ever felt.
The location of the ‘quake was given as Latitude: 11.04N and Longitude: 60.70W, with a origin depth of 29 kilometres, with its centre closer to Scarborough, Tobago.
It was felt 16 km SSE of Scarborough, 78 km NE of Arima and 99 km NE of Port of Spain.
In Port of Spain, people still at work in high rise buildings – which swayed and rattled as the ‘quake progressed – vacated the premises right after, fearful of aftershocks.
On Facebook, citizens in various parts of Trinidad reported feeling “a huge earthquake”, with some reporting that their pets showed signs of anxiety right before the event.
