Nkosi Dunwoody and Ashley Weekes both made big splashes to put Alpha Swim Club on top the standings after day two of the National Short Course Championship on Wednesday night.

Competing at the Aquatic Centre, both swimmers dominated the 13-14 age category, racing their way to three gold medals each.

At the end of the evening, Alpha topped the standings with 270 points, already well ahead of Pirates Swim Club on 203.5,

In the women’s competition, Alpha were also ahead with 235.5 points, with Pirates trailing in second on 185.5.

Dunwoody, a CARIFTA swimmer, opened his account in the boys 200 metres individual medley when he clocked two minutes, 14.04 seconds to win the event ahead of Pirates’ Noah Kirby (2:37.01) and Matthew Mayers (2:39.07).

He followed up by taking the 100m butterfly in 1:02.84, where he was the lone competitor.

Dunwoody then stormed to victory in the 200m freestyle, touching the wall first in 2:02.20, while Nathaniel Roach was second in 2:11.38 and Mayers third in 2:31.02.

Weekes, meanwhile, matched her teammate’s dominance. Also a CARIFTA swimmer, Weekes showed her class by winning the girls 200m individual medley in a time of 2:35.17, well ahead of second placed teammate Zakiya Weekes who was timed at 2:54.56.

Ashley was once again dominant in the 200m freestyle when she clocked 2:14.92 to win the event, with Shirkeitha Hunte of Titans second in 2:27.45 and Erika Loustric, also of Titans, third in 2:34.85.

Weekes capped off a productive evening in the pool when she raced to another handsome win, this time in the 100m butterfly, where she clocked 1:10.84.

Teammate Destiny Harding was timed at 1:14.89 to be second while Zoe Taylor of Pirates was third in 1:18.09.

Meanwhile, Danielle Treasure of Pirates, managed to clinch two wins while competing in the girls 11-12 category.

She won the 200 metres individual medley in a time of 2:37.04, with Alpha’s Aza Dunwoody second in 2:40.97 and Ti-Juana Welch, also from Alpha, third in 2:46.60.

Treasure was in winners’ row again when she edged out Pirates teammate Keilani Talma by touching the wall first in the 200 metres freestyle in a time of 2:18.18.

Talma was second in 2:19.80 while Aza Dunwoody was third in 2:24.42.

On Tuesday’s opening day, Nkosi Dunwoody, Ashley Weekes and Treasure all grabbed two wins to headline the programme.

The meet is set to run until Sunday.
