Georgetown, Guyana – Barbados Pride, chasing 161 to win in 70 overs, were 25 for three off 8.1 overs when rain stopped play just before the first half-an-hour’s play in the second session on the fourth and final day of the fourth round Digicel regional Professional Cricket League first-class Day/Night match against Guyana Jaguars at the Guyana National Stadium today.
At the crease were Shamarh Brooks on 11 and Roston Chase, five.
Left-hander Anthony Alleyne was given out leg before wicket by a ball which appeared to be pitching outside the leg stump, for nought, off fast bowler Keon Joseph. Shai Hope, pushing at one on the off stump, was caught at the wicket by Anthony Bramble off left-arm medium-pacer Raymon Reifer for also for nought. And captain Kraigg Brathwaite was caught by Bramble after the ball was dropped at second slip by Christopher Barnwell off Reifer for seven.
Guyana Jaguars, with a first innings lead of 23 resumed on 32 for two off ten overs, and were bowled out for 137 off 35.2 overs in their second innings – just under half-an-hour before the end of the first session.
Opener Shimron Hetmyer topscored in the Guyana Jaguars second innings with 67 from his overnight 14. Hetmyer faced 83 balls and struck nine fours and one six, reaching his half-century off 62 balls with eight fours.
Jonathan Carter was outstanding in the field for the Pride, taking five catches at slip including four in succession.
Today, nightwatchman Gudakesh Motie, who resumed on one, was caught at the wicket by Shane Dowrich off medium-pacer Justin Greaves for ten. Six overs later Vishaul Singh, cutting, was caught at slip by Carter off off-spinner Chase for one. Hetmyer, pushing forward in the next over, was caught at slip by Carter off left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican.
Shivnarine Chanderpaul, trying to play an arm ball through the on-side went next, caught at slip by Carter off Warrican for four.
The last wicket of substance gone the remaining four batsmen were out in the next five overs for a second innings of 137.
In reply, Rajendra Chandrika was leg before wicket by fast bowler Kemar Roach for nought off the first ball and captain Leon Johnson was caught by Brooks off Chase for 13.
The rain never let up and the match ended in a draw, Jaguars 311 & 137 Pride 288 & 25/3.
