A Christ Church man has eight weeks to pay the Oistins Magistrates’ Court $1 000, after pleading guilty to three drug charges.
If 35-year-old Kelvin Ricardo Browne of Lodge Road fails to pay the fine, he will spend nine months at HMP Dodds.
Browne, who appeared before Acting Magistrate Alliston Seale today, admitted to possession, possession with intent to supply and trafficking of 17 grammes of cannabis worth $85.
Police prosecutor Rudolph Burnett said lawmen were on patrol along Dover Beach when Browne was seen walking in the area. He was reportedly behaving in a suspicious manner and was stopped. He consented to a search of his person.
However, before the search could be conducted, Browne pulled a black pouch from his right pocket and threw it in a bushy area. It was recovered, inspected and found to contain four plastic wrappings with vegetable matter suspected to be cannabis.
For the possession and possession with intent to supply charges, the magistrate convicted, reprimanded and discharged him, but fined him for the trafficking offence.
