Minister of Culture Stephen Lashley has congratulated Barbadian disc jockey Andre DJ Puffy Parris who recently won the 2016 Red Bull Thre3style World Championship in Chile.
“I really want to congratulate DJ Puffy; he has been blazing the trail for quite a while on the international scene . . . . He has really taken this genre of creativity to a new height,” Lashley said in a statement issued through the Barbados Government Information Service (BGIS).
The minister said the 25 year-old DJ was part of the growing cultural industries sector here and the win “really speaks to where we can go in relation to the cultural industries, in relation to culture”.
“Culture must be taken more seriously in terms of what it can do,” the BGIS release quoted Lashley as saying, adding that “deejaying is an emerging sector of entertainment that is going places and would produce significant earnings”.
Thre3style is a competition in which disc jockeys showcase their skills, technicality, originality and creativity.
