A 41-year-old man lost his freedom today over a bottle of alcohol.
Troy Ryan Oneal Jordan of Block 16A, Silver Hill, Christ Church was sentenced to three months in HMP Dodds for stealing a $97.75 bottle of Hennessy Cognac Brandy belonging to Massy Limited earlier this year.
He had pleaded guilty on April 11 and was released on $2,000 bail pending sentencing.
Jordan entered Price Lo Supermarket in Sargeant’s Village, Christ Church on March 3 and was caught on the security camera taking the bottle of alcohol from the shelf and walking around the store.
However, he was later seen by a shopper putting the item in his pants. The shopper alerted a worker who then informed the supervisor. A check of the footage confirmed Jordan’s actions. The matter was later reported to the police, investigations were launched and a search warrant executed at Jordan’s residence but he was not home. However, he went into police custody voluntarily and admitted to the offence.
When the matter came up today, Magistrate Douglas Frederick chastised Jordan for lying at a previous court appearance about his convictions.
“It looks like you stole from every shop,” the magistrate pointed out as he took a look at Jordan’s conviction card.
“I wasn’t working when I stole,” was the defence put forward by the man.
The magistrate then slapped him with a three-month prison term for his crime, telling the man that he had told “too much lies”.
“I begging, Sir,” Jordan said, even as the magistrate penned his signature to today’s ruling.
