Linus Rene, 59, was not at home at the time of the blaze that also brought an early end to classes at the Hindsbury Primary School.
Eyewitness Rodney Harris told Barbados TODAY: “It happened so quick, all the smoke was just blowing up. I came to see what was going on and it was right there. I couldn’t do anything about it because everything done gone.”
Another resident said she saw the smoke from her home and when she went to the scene of the fire, she heard the screams of pupils at the nearby school.
“The school children were screaming and thing. The smoke came real far,” she said.
Two fire tenders and nine officers from the Barbados Fire Service responded under the command of Station Officer Anthony King and Divisional Officer Gaskin.
