While no Barbadians were injured in the recent terrorist attacks in Manchester and London, citizens living in the United Kingdom have been advised to remain vigilant.
That advice has come from High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Reverend Guy Hewitt.
“Given that this is the third attack in as many months, we must be vigilant yet resolute in the face of this threat, to demonstrate [terrorists] won’t change our way of life and they won’t defeat us,” he said in a statement issued in response to questions from Barbados TODAY after the London attack.
“The High Commission is reviewing its safety procedures and advises persons visiting the UK that new protective measures have been put in place, including physical barriers being installed on the sidewalks around key tourist areas in London to mitigate further vehicle-borne attacks. However, it should be emphasized that attacks remain infrequent in the UK.”
Hewitt said the Barbados High Commission’s prayers were with the victims and their families.
“Our thanks and admiration go out to the emergency services who responded so rapidly and bravely which, undoubtedly, prevented further loss of life,” he added.
Twenty-two people lost their lives in a bombing at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester on May 22.

Highly laughable is the response - comment from one who has lived in the UK for fifty plus years and find the High Commissioner's comments highly irrelevant.

I have lived in the (UK) for over 50 years returning to my home in barbados so many times losing count,,, For a while now I feel scared and unsecured visiting Barbados , in the (UK) I am scared of traffic wardens and the gestapo behaviour of the tricks local councils get up to to scam money from us motorist.............
