It was a double celebration at Boscobel Primary School in Gay’s Village in St Peter Wednesday.

First cousins Kyle Jordan and M’Laika Jordan were on top of the world after learning that they were the top students of the close knit primary school and would both be heading to The Alexandra School in September.

The two, who are still on cloud nine, were over the moon when a Barbados TODAY team visited the school earlier Thursday. M’Laika, who scored 69 in Mathematics and 85 in English, said she was more than happy to be heading to the school commonly referred to as the beacon of the north.

“I am happy that I made it to Alexandra. I think it’s a very good school. I’m very proud of myself for buckling down and doing my work. I was aiming for 70 in Maths and I got 69, which was very unfortunate. But I am happy with the overall grades,” she said.

The aspiring scientist added,” I’m looking forward to doing the sciences at Alexandra. I also hope I meet lots of new friends there.”

Kyle, who is also the head boy of the rural primary school, got 71 in Mathematics and 84 in English. He said though he did not get to his dream school, The Alexandra School was his second choice for secondary school education so he is happy.

“I feel good. I wanted to get to Combermere but if I didn’t get there I wanted to go to Alexandra and I’m going there. I feel good because I was looking for a school that has a good cricket programme and Alexandra has a good cricket programme,” he said.

The avid cricket lover added that he couldn’t wait to join the cricket team at the school.

Class teacher Paula Toppin said she was more than proud of her top students.

“My top students I think they did a fantastic job. They worked well, they worked hard and they always wanted to go to the schools they passed for. They pulled out all the stops and they did their best. There’s nothing more you could ask for here at Boscobel, but their best,” she said.

Toppin added that, “I think the class did exceedingly well. We had a small number of students I know that everybody has made some improvement and I’m proud of all of them.”

Principal Norma Worrell was also pleased with the students’ performance.

“The results were kind of expected. Most of the children passed for the older grammar schools. These children are really happy with their results. Most of them are going to the schools that they wanted to go to,” Worrell said.
