A 28-year-old man was remanded to HMP Dodds Friday after appearing in court on gun and ammunition charges.
It is alleged that on June 13, Ahmal Lamar Phillips of Block 1D Pavilion Terrace, Deacons Farm, St Michael had in his possession a firearm and ten rounds of ammunition without the valid licences to do so.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charges when he appeared before Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant Friday morning.
The accused will spend 28 days at the St Philip prison in the first instance, before making his second appearance before the same magistrate on July 14.
In another case Friday, Shawn Ricardo Layne of Bridgefield, St Thomas appeared in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court charged with unlawfully assaulting Adrian Jackman on May 29.
Layne, a Public Service Vehicle driver, denied the charge.
With no objections from the police prosecutor, Layne was released on $3,000 bail, which he secured with one surety.
However, his bail came with the condition that he stays away from Jackman and his property.
