A disc jockey was remanded to HMP Dodds today after appearing in a Bridgetown court accused of serious bodily harm.
Darren Manningham Burgess, of #603 Block 6, London Bourne Towers, St Michael is charged with committing the offence against Corey Weekes on May 14, with intent to maim, disfigure or disable him or to do him some serious bodily harm.
He was not required to plead when he appeared before Magistrate Douglas Frederick in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court this morning.
When it came time for bail, the police prosecutor Sergeant Martin Rock objected based on the serious nature of the offence and for the protection of society.
He also submitted that the offence was allegedly committed while Burgess was out on bail and there were also warrants for his arrest.
In his bail submission, the accused admitted that he did not know “when last I come court”. He claimed that he was not given a date for his next court appearance and, as such, never showed.
Burgess also said he was unaware that there were any warrants out for his arrest.
His application for bail was denied and he was remanded until July 14, when he will make his second appearance before the same magistrate.
