Police are questioning a man who posted a message on Facebook calling for the rape and murder of the wife and daughter of Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley.
Police confirmed that Rayad Ryan Mohammed was assisting their investigations and that no charges had yet been laid against him.
In his message, Mohammed wrote “Someone should find ROWLEY daughter and wife and slit their throats n rape them”.
He later told local media that the comment was in regards to the number of murders in the country and the recent murder of a 13-year-old school boy and his neighbour, both of whom had their throats slashed.
“What I meant with that post was that only when someone who is of rank or their family gets that then maybe they will do something about crime,” Mohammed told the Sunday Guardian newspaper.
The post was widely circulated on social media and drew scathing criticism from several people, with some labelling it racist. Hours later, Mohammed deleted the post and his account.
