Host country Trinidad & Tobago topped the Caribbean countries competing in the Central American and Caribbean Swimming Championships (CCCAN) that came to a close at the National Aquatic Centre on Sunday.

The twin-island republic won a total of 50 medals that included 16 gold, 19 silver and 15 bronze medals and was among five countries from the English-speaking Caribbean in the top-10 nations at the championships.

The only country that produced a higher medal count than T&T was Puerto Rico, who topped the table with 52 (21g, 14s, 17b).

Bermuda also produced a strong showing, winning nine gold, 12 silver and seven bronze medals which ranked them fourth on the medal table below Guatemala (21).

Bermuda’s 28 medals were better than the 19 medals (eight gold, four silver and 7 bronze) won by Barbados which put them at six on the medal table. The land of the flying fish finished two places above Jamaica.

The Jamaicans finished eighth on the table with 16 medals – seven gold, six silver and three bronze medals. Honduras, with 25, were seventh.

Bahamas, in ninth, was the only other nation from the English-speaking Caribbean in the top 10 on the medal table with 14 medals – four gold, seven silver and three bronze.

Panama with four gold, six silver and 14 bronze medals rounded out the top 10 nations.
