If 27-year-old Dwight Dwayne Greene of Beckles Land, New Orleans, St Michael is to have corned beef or tuna over the next three months, it will be from the confines of HMP Dodds.
Bridgetown Magistrate Douglas Frederick today sentenced the shoplifter to three months in jail after Greene pleaded guilty to stealing three cans of luncheon meat, two cans of corned beef and five cans of tuna from Savings Plus yesterday.
The stolen items totalled $47.80.
Prosecutor Sergeant Martin Rock, in outlining the case, said Greene entered the Harewood Alley, St Michael store empty handed just after 11a.m.
Minutes later he was seen by a security guard taking the items from the shelf and placing them in a plastic bag.
He was apprehended after he walked passed the cashiers on his way to the exit.
Greene allegedly told the security guard he had purchased the items at another local supermarket. The matter was reported to police and Greene was arrested and charged.
In a separate case, 28-year-old Rommel Ricardo Weir has been ordered to keep the peace and be of good behaviour for the next six months.
He had pleaded guilty to assaulting Shernelle Walcott occasioning her actual bodily harm.
If Weir, of Hinkson Gap, New Orleans, St Michael fails to adhere to the order by Frederick he will spend three months at HMP Dodds.
