Two St Michael men charged with obstructing a police officer last October were granted bail when they appeared before Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant at the No. 2 District ‘A’ Criminal Court Monday morning.
Jamal Randal Bowen of Block 16A, Ferniehurst, Black Rock, St Michael, and Jason Anderson Patterson Best of Block 3B Deacons Court, Deacons Farm, St Michael, pleaded not guilty to obstructing Police Constable Arid Scott in the execution of duty.
Prosecutor Sergeant Cameron Gibbons objected to bail, citing the serious nature of the offence and pointing out that Bowen was known to the courts.
However, Bowen’s attorney Danielle Mottley rebutted the prosecutor’s argument, stating that the offence allegedly took place in October last year and Bowen’s only conviction was six years ago.
Magistrate Cuffy-Sargeant sided with the defence and granted each accused $3,000 bail with one surety. Bowen and Best are required to present themselves once a week to the Black Rock Police Station, as a condition of their bail release.
They are scheduled to return to court on October 19.
